The Many Uses Of Blog

A blog, or a weblog, is a website that contains a written record of a person or group’s stories, commentaries, advocacies, experiences, and all the other things that one normally records on paper. Blogs have increased in popularity in the past years and people of all ages and generations have become quite addicted to it.

But what really are the reasons why people blog? Does one have to have a special reason for doing so? Does one have to wait for a special occasion in order to make one?

Generally, people use blogs to disseminate information. Information can mean any truth or fact, or belief, from any person or groups of persons. The best example for cases like this is the politician. A politician uses his blog to introduce himself to people. Through his blog, he can share stories that reveal his intentions or plan of action. People will be able to get to know him better if he constantly talks about himself in his blog.

Blogs can also be used as personal diaries. These personal diaries usually reveal a person’s day-to-day activities, including his thoughts and opinions about certain issues and events that take place in his life.

There are also people who use blogs to educate people about their causes. Blogs that promote causes normally share with the readers their advocacies, like the prevention of global warming or the stopping of child abuse. These blogs often narrate stories based on members’ personal experiences and most of the time, are used to entice readers to join their cause or their group.

Corporate blogs are the type of blogs that businesses and companies use not only to reach out to their employees but also (more importantly) to their client. Internal corporate blogs are used to communicate with employees while the external ones are utilized for advertising and marketing purposes.

Blogs that cater to a particular genre are usually meant to solicit support or promote a person’s work; this particularly works for blogs that fall under the music category or photo blog. Music blogs are used to promote a particular person or group’s songs while a photoblog is used to show off pictures. There are also blogs that talk about the latest in fashion (fashion blogs) and those that feature interesting places one can go to (travel blogs).

Some schools and universities also use blogs to help students communicate better with their teachers and administrators, and even with their fellow students.

All these blogs have one goal in mind: to inform the readers.

Whatever your reason for coming up with your own blog, there’s no need to worry. As long as you know what you want the people to know, you will never go wrong. There will always be someone who will find a legitimate use for your blog and the stories that you feature on it.

Blogging is not just for sharing the daily accounts of your life. It can also serve other purposes for business.

How To Create Your Own Blog

A blog (or weblog) is a website that contains writings about different issues. It is somewhat like a personal diary and a collection of a person’s private thoughts and feelings. The act of creating a blog is called blogging.

Over the years, blogging has become an extremely popular Internet-related activity. People from all walks of life have learned to use blogs as a means of self-expression. Some blogs talk about specific issues like politics, family, business, particular hobbies like cooking and photography, and even about the Internet and related technologies. However, there are also blogs that feature miscellaneous issues.

Creating your own blog is actually very easy. You do not need to be an Internet whiz to be able to make one for yourself. All that you need to do is follow the steps enumerated below.

The first thing that you need to do is scout around the Web for a free blogging software. Blogger.com and Wordpress.com are two of the most popular free blogging software found on the Web. You can choose any of the two, or decide to use any of the other blogging software like LiveJournal and TypePad.

Once you have chosen the software, you can now move on to the registration. Registering will mean creating an account. You have to think of a unique and catchy domain name and theme for your blog. These are the first things that people will notice when they get to visit your blog, so it is highly important for you to choose a theme and name that stands out.

Before you actually begin to blog, it is essential for you to study or try to learn how to customize your site. Customizing your blog site will allow you to change such items as the author name that you want to appear on your posts, the special features of your blog like photos, blogrolls, feeds, and plug-ins. You can also choose to show comments left by your blog visitors. Take time to familiarize yourself with these features because you can use these to customize your page and make it your own.

Once you are done with these first three steps, you can begin blogging. Make sure that your topic is something that people will find interesting. You can choose to devote your blog to topics that are close to your heart. If you are interested in photography, you can post entries that talk about issues related to photography. You can even include several samples of your favorite photos.

Blogging is an interesting and fun activity. Aside from allowing you to express your thoughts and feelings, it also helps you explore your creative side.

Blogging is a thought provoking hobby which can let you be in touch with the world through the internet.

The Essentials Of Blogging

Blogging is an exciting activity. It is something that allows you to express yourself in whatever way you want; through words, through photos, or through videos and other similar materials. When it first became popular, blogging was something mostly done for fun. Nowadays, however, it has become a source of income for most people.

Regardless of what your reason for blogging is, there are several things that you need to keep in mind in order to make your experience a truly worthwhile one.

* If it is your first time to blog (and if you do not have the financial means), choose a blogging site that’s free. Choosing a free blogging site will allow you to concentrate well on the content of your blog because you won’t have to keep thinking about your financial obligations.
* Although there are blogs that cater to general topics or subjects, it is always best if you stick to a particular interest so that it will be easier to market your blog. Examples are movie reviews, book reviews, cooking, and photography.
* Some people will tell you that updating your blog on a daily basis will not be good. Don’t listen to them. You need to update your blog on a daily basis. Your updates must be relevant to your blog and must generate interest among your readers. Don’t just write anything.
* Use advertising for your blog as this will help generate the traffic you will need to earn the profits you desire. There are several advertising options that you can choose from.
* Include a counter on your blog as this helps you track the number of visitors to your blog. The comments that you find on your blog posts do not pertain to site traffic. Constantly track your blog visitors through the counter. This will also help make you aware of how your blog is doing; and will inspire you to work harder on keeping your blog interesting and exciting.
* Put variety in your blog. Don’t simply let it overflow with content that look like never ending sentences and paragraphs. Include colorful and interesting photos, and from time-to-time, insert some exciting videos.
* Add a personal touch to your blog. Most readers find personal blog truly interesting and effective.

You do not have to be the best writer in the world to be able to create a successful blog. Blogging is more than just writing; it is writing with passion and with meaning. Blogging is being honest. So as long as you are passionate about your blog and you are honest in everything that you write about, your blog will survive and visitors will keep reading your posts.

Blogging is not just a hobby. It is also a way of earning money online.

So What is it About a Blog?

In a world where almost all areas of business are based in virtual reality, it is important to establish your distinct business fingerprint and make sure that it is on the pulse of the various virtual communities in your respective field. Your business fingerprint, or brand, is what sets you and your business apart from every other company or corporation that may be your main sources of competition. Creating a name, a logo, and a clear definition of what your business is and has to offer will not only increase your credibility, but it will also help to establish your presence on a global scale.

Both in business and in one’s personal life, virtual communities and social networks allow for a greater capacity to access information on people, businesses, and a plethora of other topics. Also, by establishing a presence online, whether it is as an individual or as a business, you also become more easily accessible to others.

It is imperative that a level of consistency and cohesion is maintained whenever and wherever your marketing tactics are concerned. A lack of solidarity within your business model is a one sure fire way to lose potential business, customers and clients, and other important connections.

Communication is also a very vital element of any business. Reliable and dependable communication with your general public is a major way of interacting with potential clients and others who may be interested in what you have to say and the goods and services that your business provides.

It may sound elementary, but one great way to communicate with your peers and prospective customers is by utilizing a new little tool known to those familiar with online services as a blog. Jotting down your thoughts or writing a blog, also referred to as a weblog, is an easy and inexpensive way to communicate with the public at large (at least the ones online).

This relatively new tool is a very useful one in marketing that allows you to enlighten the world about who you are, what you do, what you have to offer, and pretty much anything else that is on your mind. A blog is a mixture of what is happening in reality and what is happening online. It is pretty much a hybrid of part a journal that informs of daily occurrences and events and part guide to people all over the world.

Most business people are just too busy these days to establish, and in some cases even re-establish, open lines of communication with other like-minded individuals in their perspective fields. For many business professionals, texting, sending e-mails, or other computer based messages instead of meeting others face to face has become the norm. Therefore, posting a blog is a fantastic way of publically interacting on a grand scale.

Reading a blog on a topic of interest by someone a person is looking to get to know better, seek advice from, or even learn from, is and quick an easy way to do just that. If you do decide to communicate with the masses via blogging, there are certain aspects that you need to be take into consideration. First and foremost, any posted information is publically accessible. Pretty much anyone with an internet connection will have the ability to read what you write, so it is important to make sure the content is informative, credible, and reliable.

In addition, a website that contains current and periodic information generally becomes a useful resource that is referred to over and over again. Some blogs are updated daily and others weekly, but the actual duration of each post typically depends on the schedule and time frame that works best for each individual his/her particular business. The public that is accessing the information you are posting will also generally offer insight by responding to the blogs with remarks and commentary.

Most social networks already have a blogging feature setup, so getting started on posting your online journal is simple. It is a wise idea to set up a section on your website, if one does not already exist, as it will allow you to interact with your public and also gives them access to you. A really simple syndication (RSS), also referred to as rich site summary, is standard for content distribution and syndication. XMS based formations for content distribution deliver updates and news for web-based content.
Another blog related source to look into is Blog Adsense (www.google.com/adsense). This feature gives you the luxury of displaying Google ads on your own website that appeal to your target audience. This resource is a great way to increase traffic to your website, especially because Google as a brand is known globally very credible. You can search and add information, images, and content related to your blog on to your page.

Communicating with people all over the world has never been easier to do and as accessible as it is today. Blogs are now used for everything from updates on personal occurrences and social happenings to business/corporate promotions to political campaigns.

10 Easy Steps to Creating a Blog

Creating a blog may be a lot easier than you think. It can be done in a few simple steps. Anyone with little or no technical skills can create and maintain a blog. With the use of Wordpress blogging software, it is a process which anyone can follow.

Blogs have become very popular in the past few years. The definition of a blog in Wikipedia is: A blog (a contraction of the term “weblog”)[1] is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Blogs are also used by companies and internet marketers as websites to promote their products. They make chronological entries of articles and other promotional materials related to their products. Blogs are usually more personal than traditional websites, and represent the owner of the website.

Besides being a very easy way to create your own website, the search engines also favor blogs. When you are creating a blog, use your keywords to optimize the blog for search engine optimization (”SEO”). You should use your keyword in the domain name, in the blog name, and throughout the pages of the blog. You can also insert certain plug ins (software modules that add specific features) in your blog that help with SEO. I use All In One SEO Pack, which is highly recommended.

Here are the steps for creating a blog with Wordpress:

1. Get a domain name. Go to GoDaddy or Hostmonster and buy a domain name, which should cost you around $10.00 for a year.

2. Get hosting for your domain. I use Hostmonster and Hostgator, and they both provide great service. Your yearly hosting should be around $100. Activate your domain on your host server. If you don’t know how to do this, both of these companies have 24/7 phone service, and they will help you.

3. Download a Wordpress blog. In Hostmonster, go to your cPanel, and search for Software Services, and then Simple Script. Go to the Script List, click on the Wordpress logo and it will open up a screen where you can choose your blog style.

Try to choose a formatting style that you like, even though you can change it later. This will bring up a screen that will ask you where you want Wordpress installed, and a scroll down list where you will click on the domain that you chose for this blog. At this point you have installed your blog.

In Hostgator, it is very similar. Go to your cPanel and search for Software Services, and then Fantastico Deluxe. It opens up to a list. Choose Wordpress and “new installation”.

4. Username and password. Once the installation is finished, you will see a screen with a username and password. It will also have the site URL, which is your blog address, and the log in URL, which is your dashboard, where you will do all the editing to your blog.

5. Dashboard. Log in to your dashboard. As soon as you log in it will ask you to change your password from the generated password to your own choice of password. This will take you to the profile section when you choose the change of password. Finish up the rest of your profile. Save your settings.

6. Blog name and subtitle. Go to the “Settings” section under “Appearance” and fill in your blog name that will appear in bold letters as a headline in the header section of your blog, and the tagline, which is the subheading for your blog name. Always save your settings.

7. Start creating posts. Posts are your chronological entries. You will post articles, videos, pictures, quotes, anything that you want.

8. Create widgets. Widgets are usually what will appear in your sidebars. There are a lot of different choice of widgets you can choose, and you just pull them to your sidebar and insert whatever information you want. For example, there are widgets for “Recent Comments” and that will automatically generate a list, as comments to your posts come in. Also “Recent Posts” will automatically generate a list with the titles of your posts as you create them.

However, there are also “text” widgets where you can install plain text or HTML text. HTML text is used for banners and graphics.

9. Create pages. You will usually create pages for About Me, Contact Information, and Legal Disclosure.

10. Change your theme. You can change your theme at any time by going to the “Appearance” tab, “add new themes”. There you will have a selection of features that you may choose from for your blog design. Once you find a design that you like, you simply click “install”, and then “activate”. Your new chosen theme will appear with all your blog entries.

Once you have done these steps, you are done creating your blog. Now you are ready to start blogging. Bloggers usually update their blogs frequently. The more time and dedication you give it, the better you can make it. It is a lot of fun and a great way to market yourself.

Before You Start Your Blog Think About What Type Of Blogger You Are

There are thousands of bloggers online and many of them fit into only three different types of bloggers which are

Bloggers without a cause
Hobby bloggers
Business/community/consultant bloggers

Bloggers without a cause
These are people who are interested in using the internet to build an income but have no particular passion they want to blog about and/or any idea of what topic to cover.

They have an advantage over other bloggers because they do not come online with any idea of what they think will sell but have to spend time finding that out. One of the biggest mistakes people new to the web make is believing they know what people want when they get on here!

By having no real idea about what they want to do these bloggers will have to spend time researching and hunting out what products are hot in the market right now which of course all bloggers should really do anyway. Always remember that being on the internet is always about providing people with what they desperately want.

Hobby Bloggers
In this category the blogger knows that they have a hobby or a passion for a particular industry and they want to use their blog to share what they know.

Bloggers in this group still need to do a lot of research to find out more about their hobby and who are the other people online who love it too. Some of the things you need to do include:

Finding forums and networks where other people hang out online so you can get an idea of the types of questions they are asking. Questions are a great way to discover what people want.

Find other bloggers already blogging about your hobby and take a look at the information they provide and how you might do it differently.

You need to figure out what affiliate products exist or whether you will want to create your own products that you then sell.

People with hobbies really can take advantage of blogs and the blogging world to reach out and profit from their blogging activity.

Business/Community/Consultant bloggers
These are bloggers with a trained skill and/or a particular expertise that they want to promote online. Many of them may run a business offline or be a solo entrepreneur running training, delivering consultancy work, or run a service related business. Even churches and charities can use a blog as a way of promoting their cause and raising money for their organization.

Like the other two categories professional bloggers and even charities must beware of starting a blog and then believing they know what their audience wants, it is always a good idea to research what it is they might want to know about or learn about and then provide them with that information.

Of course some charities and churches may just want to put a blog up so that their current supporters can be kept informed of their work and what they are doing.

Can you identify with the type of blogger you want to be? It is important you do this because in the process of finding that out you will also discover what you want to blog about and who you want to reach out too. It really does help you to begin building your blog business when you know that type of blogger you want to be.

Find The Right Niche And Make Money

Making money through the Internet is one of the easiest tasks to do. You simply just have to put up your own website, find the right niche for it and create content for the website.

Now, you may wonder what a niche is. A niche is actually like the main topic of your website. It will be the subject of every post you have and definitely the reason why you have the site put up in the Internet. A niche is something you are interested in and something that you love. You may talk about anything just as long as you know that the niche that you have chosen is profitable. So, how to find the right niche for your site that would generate money?

First, I know how tempting it is to just go with what is very popular in the web today. But if you are choosing your own niche, do not always go with the flow or the fad as this is not usually the case if you want to make money online. There are a lot of entrepreneurs out there who would compete to the same niche. Yet, do not also go for a niche that has only slow competition because that means, only a few people are interested in it. So, my advice to you, my friend, is to go for a niche where you, personally, have interest in. You must totally be interested with your topic wherein you do not get bored writing, learning and reading about the said topics. Consider it your passion. Furthermore, brainstorming will really help you out. Once you have already chosen your topics, go for the Google keyword tool and see to it if it has high searches.

Secondly, if you want to have a website, always make sure that the niche that you are into actually exists in the web. Go for those niche topics where people do actually search for it in the search engines. Find a niche where people are actually looking for information about. In that way, you can have them go to your site and eventually, make money out of it.

Lastly, since you are aiming for a website that sell and a website that earns profit, always make sure that you join some affiliate programs that are related to your niche. Also, invite or lure advertisers to place advertisements on your site. Yet, always make sure that the ads are related to your site too.

Finding the right niche is really not that hard if you would just look closely and evaluate the topics you have in mind.

What Does It Take To Make Money With Blogging?

Every blog must have a few things in place in order to enjoy earning an income from what you offer and these are:

The first is an opt-in list. Man can not profit by blog alone! You must have alternative ways to build your income both directly and indirectly that will help you. A very direct way to make money from your blog is to collect the names and addresses of people who are interested in what you offer. Once they sign up you continue to provide value and support but you can also send out email offers recommending products or promoting your own products.

The second are products. Developing an income is all about having a regular supply of relevant products you can offer to your target market that will help them or provide a solution that they were looking for. These products do not have to be your own and you can use affiliate marketing to sell products on behalf of other people and earn an income that way. There are affiliate marketers who do nothing but sell other products and make millions each year, plus there is no delivery or customer service needed which is what makes this form of marketing online so very attractive to people.

The final ingredient you need to successfully make money online is quality content. If you are not providing free quality content that is valuable to the people reading it why would they want to return? Content has always been king and will continue to be for a long time because people use the internet to search for information. Whether you provide that information in text, audio or video it really does not matter but you have to make it good enough for people to want to pass on what you have told them. The only time quality content that helps and/or provides a solution would vary is if you are running a personal blog about your life where you simply tell people about what is happening with you. You can still earn a living from advertising but you will first need to build up a big enough audience for people who want to read about your life.

Making money with a blog is really easy because all you need is a blog, a target market who spends money and a way to reach them. Now that is pretty simple right. The only problem is there are millions of other people doing the same thing so your job is to make yourself different enough so that you stand out from the crowd.

3 Quick Questions You Want To Get Right If You’re Promoting Your Blog On Twitter

If you’re promoting your blog on Twitter, I have a little quiz you should take to find out if you’re promoting your blog effectively. You see, it’s not enough to just promote your blog it’s important that you go about it the right way. If you can answer each of these 3 quick questions correctly you’re definitely on the right track.

When I drive traffic to Twitter I:
a) Follow as any people as possible.
b) Follow people in my niche and take an active part in the community.
c) I don’t play an active part in the twitter community.

If your answer was A you made the wrong choice. B is the correct answer in this instance. Having a lot of followers is great, but to people outside your niche your tweets might seem like spam. That’s one of the reasons you really want your followers to be targeted to your niche. In addition it’s very important that you are active on Twitter. Twitter is an online community and to earn peoples’ trust and respect you need to play an active part. I’m currently following over 2000 people so naturally I can’t stay in touch with all of them. The key is to check your replies at least once a day. Make sure you reply back to those who mention you.

I promote my blog on Twitter by:
a) Making sure that there is a link to my blog on my profile page.
b) Constantly tweeting the link to my blog.
c) Talking about MY blog constantly.

This time A is the correct choice. Your profile page is the best place to put a link to your blog. Not only will a lot of people take a look at your profile page, but it’s also the only place you can really put a full-length link on Twitter. Let’s face it 140 characters is not a lot if you want to post a useful message along with a link.

While you’re at it, you should consider getting a custom background. If you do that make sure your domain name is visible on your background. It’s not clickable, but some people will type in the URL and go to your blog.

It’s also important that you post a tweet with a link to your latest blog posts. I highly recommend using a plugin like WP to Twitter to do that if you’re using Wordpress. Don’t just post links to your own blog though. If you do that the best-case scenario is that people will see it as being slightly selfish, the worst case scenario is that it will look like spam. Mix in as many other useful posts as possible with the tweets about your blog posts to maintain a good balance.

The tweets I post are:
a) Always marketing related.
b) Helpful and informative.
c) Not answering peoples’ questions.

This is a really important question to get right. I really hope your answer is B. Being helpful and informative is the best long term Twitter strategy I can think of. While you’re spending some time looking through your replies, do a couple of niche related searches to see if people have questions about your niche that you might be able to answer. This is a great way to build a good relationship with your niche. It’s also a great inspiration for new blog posts. So, it really serves more than just one purpose.

If you didn’t get all the questions right don’t worry about it. The important thing is that you now realize there is a right way and a wrong way to go about promoting your blog on Twitter. At this point, you should go out an implement this strategy on Twitter and when you’re ready for more go to http://www.gettwittertrafficnow.com

9 Steps To Twitter Blogging Magic

If you were unaware of the potential you have to create Twitter magic with your blog, here are 9 easy steps to follow to make that happen. We’ll start at the beginning where you choose your followers. That’s right you get to choose your followers. You’ll be surprised to see just how easy that is. So why wait? Right!

1. Follow niche targeted people.
I promised that you’d get to pick your own followers, and you do that by choosing who you follow. You see, on Twitter a lot of people will choose to follow those who follow them right back. Not everybody will do that, but around 30-50% will do that. Occasionally, you will have to prune out those who don’t to avoid hitting the Twitter limit. That’s right there is a limit to how many people you can follow on Twitter so that’s something you have to keep tabs on.

2. Stay in touch with your followers.
Once you have a good bunch of followers you want to make sure you don’t risk losing them again. That’s why you need to communicate with them. It’s important to play an active role in the Twitter community. If you don’t already it’s time to start doing so.

3. Be actively involved in the Twitter community.
As I said in the previous step you need to be active on Twitter. Not just when it comes to your followers. You see, every time you post a new tweet it appears on the public timeline. Every time you appear on the public timeline, there’s a good chance that someone will choose to follow you if they find your tweet interesting. Don’t start posting useless tweets just to get on the timeline though.

4. Put a link to your blog in your profile.
The one place you’re actually expected to put a link to your blog is on your profile page. Do yourself a huge favor and don’t forget to do so. This is a really simple, yet really important step to get right.

4a. Put your domain name on your Twitter background image.
It’s always a great idea to stand out from the ground when it comes to promotion. So, even though it may take some effort it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have a custom background created. If you do get a custom background make sure that the domain name of your blog is shown prominently in the background image.

5. Retweet when you don’t have anything to say yourself.
If you don’t have anything useful to say yourself, try to see if some of the people you are following has provided something of value. Don’t be afraid to share the stuff other people come up with. Doing so is totally in sync with the spirit of the Twitter community.

6. Answer questions people might have about your niche.
Along the same lines people may be asking question related to your niche that you may be able to answer. Answering questions posted by others is not only a great way to take part in the community, it will often make sense to create a blog post around a question and lead them to that post as your answer. So in addition to providing valuable information to others it is also a great source of inspiration for blog posts.

7. Be as helpful as possible at all times.
Did I tell you that you need to be helpful? All kidding aside, this is really important. Building relationships is the key to being able to drive traffic from Twitter.

8. Remember to post a tweet with your blog posts.
This may be one of the most obvious steps, but that doesn’t make it any less important. Every time you post a new blog post remember to post a tweet about it on Twitter as well. Which leads naturally to the final step.

9. Automate the tweeting of your blog posts.
If posting tweets about your blog post manually seems like a chore you should get a plugin that will do it for you automatically. I’m using Twitter and can highly recommend the WP to Twitter plugin, but I’m sure there are others on the market as well.

That’s all you have to do to get Twitter traffic to your blog. Go to http://www.gettwittertrafficnow.com to learn more great twitter strategies.
