Finding gifts to give to your loved ones for holidays or other special occasions can be difficult, especially if you’re a busy person and have a long list of people to shop for. Everyone wants to give gifts that will be appreciated and that appropriately celebrate the particular occasion. So for those who are looking for great gift ideas, I suggest giving food. After all, everyone has to eat, and if you give someone a delicious delicacy or sweet treat, he or she is sure to love it.
Before reading the following list of foods that you can give as gifts, remember that as easy as it is to purchase a food gift, you should be careful not to give anything that the recipient may dislike or be allergic to. If you’re not sure if the recipient is allergic to anything, to be on the safe side, refrain from giving anything with nuts or other ingredient that people are commonly allergic to.
Chocolate
Perhaps the most popular type of gift food is chocolate. Many people love chocolate, and gourmet chocolate is not something that people buy for themselves everyday. When giving chocolate as a gift, you can go the traditional route, and give a box of assorted chocolates. But while this is a nice gesture, it is not always the most appreciated. Some people love assorted chocolates, but many others only prefer a few types of chocolate and will not eat the entire box and may become frustrated trying to guess what type chocolate is in each slot.
A better idea is to give a box of chocolates that includes only one or two types. For instance, boxes of gourmet truffles, of dark chocolate, or of chocolate nut clusters make great gifts for any occasion. And of course there are a variety of other gourmet chocolate gifts that you can choose from.
Fudge
And for friends and family with a serious sweet tooth, giving a box of fudge is a fabulous idea. The rich taste and creamy texture of fudge has made it a popular gift item for many years. And as opposed to chocolate, giving a box of assorted fudge is a great idea. There are so many different types of fudge that the average person hasn’t tried or eaten frequently, and you can be the one to introduce them to a variety of fudge delicacies. You can purchase regular chocolate-flavored fudge, but you can also find other flavors such as white chocolate, peanut butter, marble, and much more.
Cake
Cakes are also foods that make great gifts. And cakes have the added advantage of not being a typical gift item, which will make your gift more unique and special. Most cake companies will even deliver your cake for you. Especially during the holiday season when cookies are commonly given, a gourmet cake can be a refreshing and appreciated gift. And there are a variety of different types of cake you can give. Cheesecake is particularly considered a gourmet dessert item, but you can also give black velvet cake, chocolate almond cake, truffle cake, or satin cake. And any kind of decorative frosting or design on the cake can make the gift even more special.
Cheese
And if you would like to give food that isn’t necessarily sweet, try giving cheese. There are many different types of cheese to choose from including a variety of different soft and hard cheeses. Again, when it comes to cheese, it is a good idea to give an assortment. Types of cheese you may want to include are brie, gouda, asigo, and more. When giving cheese, it is also a good idea to include gourmet crackers so that the recipient has something to put the cheese on.
Meats
And if you’re looking to give a much larger gift, you may want to consider giving a variety of delicacy meats. There are a variety of meats available that people don’t commonly purchase on a daily basis, making them particularly thoughtful and appreciated gifts. And as with other foods, you can create a gift basket or box of specialty meats to give. For instance, you can give an assorted box of steaks and specialty cuts of premium beef. And for those who might prefer seafood to beef, you can give smoked salmon, crab, or lobster. And for lobster, you can add an extra touch by packaging it in large pot to cook the it in.
And speaking of packaging, even the simplest of gourmet foods can be rendered magnificent with the right wrapping. Many companies will package these types of foods for you, but you can easily do it yourself in order to add a more personal touch.
Of course these are only a few of the many types of food that you can give as gifts. If you know the favorite food or treat of a close friend or family member, you can give them that favorite treat as a gift instead. For instance, my close friend knew that I loved honey and that I used it almost every day, and so for Christmas she gave me twelve jars of honey, and it was one of the best gifts I received that year.
And although giving food as gifts is a great idea, remember that not all foods are equal. While most people will love to receive food, they won’t appreciate receiving cheap, sub-par foods. So think twice before purchasing a fruitcake or other cheap food that most people won’t like.
Giving food as gifts is a great way to celebrate any occasion, whether it’s a holiday, birthday, or anniversary. By choosing from one of these many food ideas or by choosing a food idea of your own, gift giving doesn’t have to be stressful. Whether you give a package of fudge or a pot of lobster, you can be confident that people will love these delicious foods and gifts.
